Costume Construction Chief Task List

Welcome to your Task List! The Sudbury Savoyards Task Lists are designed to be used as a guideline for how you can successfully complete your job in the current production. The task list is divided into five sections: In order to keep this task list current and helpful, please edit it as you see fit. You will be asked to turn in your marked-up copy at the Debriefing Meeting. You can also send any changes electronically by clicking here or the link at the top of this page.

Cheap fabric: North End Fabrics, Inc. (31 Harrison Avenue, Boston Chinatown, MA 02111, 617-542-2763, ask for Alex or Sam).

Cheap fabric: Winmill Fabrics (Wintrop Mills, Inc., 107-111 Chauncy St., Boston, MA 02111, 617-542-1815, Howard Held, proprietor).

There are other discount fabric stores in Chinatown.

Cheap PLAIN fabric: Zinck's, PO Box 153, Berlin, OH 44610, 216-893-2071 or 800-344-8388, ask for Dave.

Cheap costume rentals: Valley Light Opera Co., PO Box 535, Amherst, MA -- contact Marian Roseneau at (413) 253-2275.

Costume rentals: The Hooker-Howe Costume Co., 46-52 S. Main St., P O Box 98, Bradford, MA 01830 -- (508) 373-3731.

Costume rentals: Mikan Theatricals, Hampton, NH - 800-BUY-MIKAN or 603-926-2744.

Costumes, hats, parasols, accessories: Wolff-Fording, Needham, Rubies, NYC, Patterson's, Burlington/Lowell.

Fancy, cheap fabric -- limited yardage: Clement's, Bedford St., Boston.

Cast Measurements

Begin measuring costumes now. With a large cast, it will take several weeks to complete. The due date is by the second rehearsal in the new year.

Rental Arrangements

Make arrangements for costume rentals. Check if the Costume Designer has already done this.

Recruit Costume Crew

Remind the cast that sewers are always needed on work days. Keep names of those who come so they can be included in the playbill (give names to the Playbill Layout Chief). If necessary, recruit sewers from outside the group - ask the cast to ask their friends!

Attend Debriefing Meeting

The Producer is responsible for setting for scheduling the Debriefing session, generally held within a month of the show closing. The meeting is to go over the production, focusing on areas of great success and areas which need significant improvement.

Task Description Timeframe
Director Buyin The Costume Designeris responsible for getting the Stage Director's buyin on the final design, including what will be rented, built, bought, used from storage. This will morely clearly define what the Costume Construction Chief will need to prepare for on work days. Final "design" should be done in November to leave time for fabric purchases.
