Auditions for lead roles will take place on Sunday, November 9 and Wednesday, November 12 at 7:30 pm at the Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Road, Route 27, in Sudbury Center. Call backs will be held on Thursday, November 13. Performance dates are February 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, 2009 at the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School Theater. Please be prepared to sing 16 bars of any song and provide the music for the accompanist. Chorus members need not audition but must attend November 9 or November 12 to register and participate. Scores will be available for purchase. There will be no movement auditions. Polynesian dancers will be chosen from the chorus during the first 2 choreography rehearsals, and the choreography will be based on their ability. Most chorus will be doing some movement to music. UtopiansKing: Baritone - Romantic, wants the best for his people; has a sly wit. Struggles under the thumb of the Public Exploder; woos his daughters' British governess. Phantis and Scaphio: Comic Baritones - Associate villains to the Public Exploder. Tarara: Comic Baritone - Squeamish about the violence mandated by his official duties, but wouldn't mind being King. Princess Zara: Soprano - King's daughter, just back from schooling in England, well Anglicized. Has a crush on Capt. Fitzbattleaxe. Princess Nekaya (Soprano) and Princess Kaleba (Mezzo-Soprano): Zara's younger sisters, who are in training with a British governess and are fast becoming mistresses of the fine art of Victorian wooing. Phylla: Soprano - Utopian Maiden The Lady Sophy: Contralto - British governess to Nakaya and Kaleba. Well aware of the Brits' superiority and her high standing in the Court. Hesitates to lower herself to reciprocating the King's affection. Calynx: Vice Chamberlain of Utopia, Melene and Salata: Utopian Maidens - are speaking roles only and will be chosen from the chorus. The First Life Guards will also be chosen from the chorus. British "Flowers of Progress"Captain Fitzbattleaxe: Tenor - Commander of The Troopers, in love with Zara. A touch of Dudley Do-Right about him. Captain Sir Edward Corcoran: Bass - Crusty admiral. Sir Bailey Barre: Tenor - All that a good G&S barrister should be! Mr. Goldbury: Baritone - Victorian Donald Trump, introducing the marvelous concept of incorporation. Shares Sir Bailey Barre's keen eye for the ladies. |
